JOB DESCRIPTION FOR A “55+ PROGRAM COORDINATOR”

Job Description Summary
The St. Mark’s United Church 55+ Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating and overseeing programs and activities that contribute to the physical, social, mental and spiritual well-being of those in the congregation and wider community aged approximately 55+.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Devising, planning, supporting and leading programs and events that would be of interest to congregational members and those in the wider community, including workshops and classes on a variety of subjects, as well as some selected social activities
- Reaching out to other groups, organizations, congregational committees and neighbouring churches to explore joint programming opportunities
- Communicating regularly with the Seniors Adult Ministry (SAM) Group, and other existing church bodies
- Recruiting and hiring appropriately skilled and trained leaders to offer specific programs
- Facilitating and leading some activities and workshops
- Ensuring events and activities are well planned, organized and resourced
- Researching new ideas for programs and activities
- Regularly advertising and promoting events and initiatives to raise awareness and encourage participation
- Communicating regularly with participants to gather feedback and improve activities
- Managing budgets and resources for programs and activities
- Working closely and collegially with other church staff
Qualifications and Skills
- Creative, resourceful and energetic, with strong interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated initiative, reliability, flexibility and sound judgment
- Excellent written and oral communication abilities
- Previous experience in programming and activity planning
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge and experience specific to churches is a definite asset
- Possess the digital skills to manage all aspects of the program

Terms and Condition
- This is a new 1 year, 520 hour contract position, with a possibility of renewal. There is no existing template for this job – the hours are flexible – so there is lots of room for creativity and initiative. We expect these programs and activities will be offered between September 2025 and May 2026, and hope to have a coordinator in place by June 2025 so that some program planning can take place before September.
- Salary: $25/hour
- The Coordinator will report to the Minister, and be accountable to the congregation’s Ministry and Personnel (M & P) Committee.
- The Coordinator will submit a monthly written report to the St. Mark’s Board.
